Hopewell Development is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Van Leeuwen as Senior Vice President, Development & Construction, based in Calgary, effective Monday, April 6. In this role, Dan will lead Hopewell Development’s Development & Construction team and work closely with our broader organization to support the delivery of our development and construction pipeline.
Dan brings more than 30 years of cross-border leadership in full-cycle, large-scale development and construction across complex mixed-use, housing, master-planned communities, and commercial projects. His career includes guiding interdisciplinary teams through strategic planning, entitlements, and delivery on programs exceeding $1 billion in value.
Notable highlights include his leadership of Taza Development in Calgary, an historic 1,240-acre partnership with the Tsuut’ina First Nation, where he was responsible for master planning, legal, leasing, entitlements, construction, and delivery, including the creation of a 25-million-square-foot master plan and zoning and design frameworks. Dan has also held senior development roles in the United States, delivering major mixed-use, retail, and urban infill projects in markets including San Francisco, Denver, Las Vegas, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has supported major city-building initiatives such as components of Edmonton’s ICE District, including the JW Marriott and Legends Residences. He began his career in construction with EllisDon as a Project Manager on significant, complex builds.
We are excited to welcome Dan to Hopewell Development and look forward to having him on board as we continue to deliver best-in-class projects and strengthen execution across the full development and construction lifecycle.
